EXTRAORDINARY EXCELLENCE

It’s not as important WHAT you do as HOW you do it!!”

25 years ago after finishing the recording of the first live praise and worship album from Israel, my guest, Avi Golan, unexpectedly walked up to me backstage at the Jerusalem Convention Center (JCC) and said “Powerful, you almost persuaded me to become a Christian.”

Avi was then the President/CEO of The Jerusalem Post, one of the most widely read business newspapers in the world, and formerly “General” Avi Golan who helped mastermind the 1976 Israeli hostage rescue and lead the raid on the Entebbe Airport. It was like a page out of the book of Acts and the Apostle Paul, Governor Festus, and King Agrippa coming to life before my very eyes. (Acts 26)

So many thoughts ran through my mind about the encounter and still do. The 3 amazing trips to Israel that year to coordinate all the 100s of producttion / travel details, the Jewish Rabbis protesting outside the JCC searching for something in their hearts limited sight and faith had not yet revealed, the releasing and unleashing of God’s Power and Spirit during the recording through the spontaneous singing and dancing of His kids in the aisles of the JCC full hearted and full throated celebrating their Messiah, and then Avi’s bold and shocking statement. That’s where I learned the lifelong lesson as a leader that’s it’s not as important WHAT we do as leaders as HOW we do it!!

Whether you’re a worship leader, songwriter, musician, producer, parent, an architect or entrepreneur, a pastor, a marketer, business leader, captain of a ship or CEO, becoming EXCELLENT at your craft is hard. Like really hard. But is it worth it? Absolutely! Why? Because as Jordan Raynor says in his new leadership book “Master of One” - “Masterful work loves our neighbors as ourselves, opens up doors to share the gospel, and leads to the most sustainable satisfaction of vocation. But most importantly…captures the world’s attention and reveals the glory and character of the exceptional God we are called to reflect.

What are you EXCELLENT at? DIG In - REPRESENT, REFLECT, and “PERSUADE” Well!!

But God has protected me right up to this present time so I can testify to everyone, from the least to the greatest.

Acts of the Apostles 26:22 NLT

But you are God’s chosen treasure—priests who are kings, a spiritual “nation” set apart as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light, and now he claims you as his very own. He did this so that you would broadcast his glorious wonders throughout the world.
